Do you see yourself as a positive or a negative person?

If you’re not sure imagine this; your boss asks you to work late tonight. How do you react to it? Do you think it’s unfair that you have to stay behind and miss a football game with your friends in the pub, or do you see it as something that needs to be done and so you do it without questioning it?

If you are the latter, then congratulations! You are a positive thinker and take things as they come and don’t usually let anything bring you down too much. If you are the former, then you should continue reading and see if you can change your mindset and become a more positive individual.  

Having a positive outlook on the world comes with many benefits, as positive thinkers are less likely to have health problems and positiveness can make your life significantly better. With negative outlook on life you are risking higher occurrence of anxiety, stress, and reduced cognitive functioning.

If you are new to a sport, and you find it challenging to wrap your head around how much you have to do to succeed, and you start to doubt yourself, then you are less likely to actually achieve the results. Your negative thinking will persuade you that you cannot do it, even if you do have the physical ability to do so.

 

Negative thinking, anxiety, and stress can lead to physical pain, emotional instability, and behavioural changes. These could include muscle pains, headaches, insomnia, mood swings, increased irritability, depression, lack of motivation, changes to your appetite, social awkwardness or withdrawal, substance abuse, and increased anger. Therefore, positive approach to life is likely to influence your attitude towards new things, challenges, and overall even your everyday life.

Positive thinking will teach you that there are no mistakes, only lessons learned, that there are no impossible challenges but rather hurdles you jump on your way to success while making the best out of every situation and opportunity that presents itself to you. Positive attitude will help you boost immunity, strength, resilience, tolerance to pain, and will improve your outlook on life. However, being 100% positive is not all you need to be, you need to remember to be realistic with your expectations as well. If you set impossible goals, you are more likely to become negative about the journey if it’s not going according to your expectations. Setting smaller, but more realistic goals that you know you will be able to reach will increase your morale, commitment, and overall satisfaction of your progress.

A personal journey starts with a decision to change something in our life. Whether that decision is to start working out, to achieve better results, or to become a pro in your discipline, they all have one thing in common. It is your drive to become better, and that comes hand in hand with positive attitude and your willingness to not give up and make your dream a reality. There will be people who will doubt you and who will try to bring you down, but what you need to remember is that you are taking on this journey for yourself and that’s the only thing that matters.
